Books for 2016

Happy New Year!  I'm going to try to keep up with what we are reading, too :)

Katherine:
Circling the Sun by Paula McLain
This is a book lover's book!  Paula McLain also wrote The Paris Wife, which I liked, too.  Her prose lets me escape to colonial Africa.  I randomly picked this one off of a list I found on my phone at the book club Christmas party, and within a week, 3 other book lovers (in real life) had recommended it to me.  I love it.

Michael:
just finished The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey on Audible.  It's (another!) post-apocalypse YA book that will be made into a movie sometime this year.  It's also on the Louisiana Teen Reader's list, so many of our students have read and enjoyed it.

D
Warriors series by Erin Hunter.
These books were recommended by his teacher; I'd never heard of them, but he likes them.  They are about clans of cats and combine his love of animals and fantasy.

Read aloud to W & D
Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I loved these growing up and was scared, since I have boys they may not ever be interested.  I was soooo wrong.  My boys love the way Wilder describes every aspect of pioneer life, from making the bullets (in Little House in the Big Woods) to making a door without nails (the chapter we read last night).  There are also great animal interactions.
